Gurugram, Haryana (Sarhind Times) – August 6, 2024
A tragic incident on Sunday evening led to the death of a young man, Navneet Singh, alias Chotu, due to electrocution near an electric pole while returning home on his bike. Following the incident, the family lodged a complaint against the electricity corporation, prompting the police to register a case. The deceased’s body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem on Monday.
The bereaved family staged a protest by placing the body on Bhodakalan Road, demanding a government job for a family member and ₹1 crore in compensation. The protest, which started around 4 PM, caused a blockade on the Bilaspur-Bhodakalan Road for over three hours. The family was adamant about their demands, causing significant disruption.
Government officials, including the Tehsildar, SDO from the electricity department, and SDM Hoshiar Singh, arrived at the scene to negotiate with the protesters. The administration promised a government job for a family member, compensation exceeding ₹10 lakhs, and a plot from the village panchayat. Following these assurances, the protest was called off around 7:30 PM.
According to the police, Navneet Singh was electrocuted when he accidentally touched exposed wires from an electric pole while passing through Kanwa Patti. His death on the spot sparked outrage among the villagers. The administration’s prompt response helped defuse the situation, providing some solace to the grieving family.
