In a shocking incident early Sunday morning, Ramesh Chander Meena, Deputy Commissioner in the Excise Department, was involved in a severe car accident in Karol Bagh, central Delhi. The incident, which occurred in the early hours, saw Meena allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in a series of crashes and fiery chaos.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has recommended the immediate suspension of Meena following the accident. “Meena was driving his car in an inebriated state, hit a bike, and dragged it for 2 km before the vehicles turned into fireballs. The bike rider escaped with minor injuries,” an official from the LG secretariat reported. Medical examination at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital confirmed Meena’s alcohol consumption.

The Directorate of Vigilance highlighted that Meena’s actions amounted to serious misconduct and were unbecoming of a government servant. Consequently, the competent authority has been advised to suspend Meena to facilitate disciplinary proceedings against him.

The accident unfolded dramatically as Meena’s vehicle, a Creta, first collided with several parked vehicles before hitting a bike taxi. Both vehicles burst into flames, creating a harrowing scene. Fortunately, both drivers managed to escape with minor injuries. The police have registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of rash driving, endangering human life, and mischief by fire.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, with flames engulfing the vehicles and firefighters struggling to control the blaze. Police officers cordoned off the area, and a crowd of onlookers gathered, drawn by the commotion and the severity of the incident.

This incident raises serious concerns about the conduct of public officials and the dangers of drunk driving. The authorities have promised a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and prevent such occurrences in the future.
