New Delhi, India (Sarhind Times) – August 6, 2024

In an alarming incident at the Golf View Condos in Sector 19B, Dwarka, five tiles fell from the first-floor balcony of a building on Sunday morning, narrowly missing a homebuyer. The incident has raised significant safety concerns among the residents and allottees of the first luxury segment society developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

The tiles, each about two feet long, fell from the external wall of Tower C as some of the allottees, who have made full payments, were visiting the site to take possession of their new flats. A video shared by one of the allottees shows the tiles crashing down from the balcony, prompting immediate complaints to the DDA.

An allottee, who wished to remain anonymous, shared, “The person who was there when the tiles fell was about to walk right inside the tower. He had only gone to check if everything was fine before taking possession. We can’t take possession unless it assures us of safety.”

The DDA has responded to the incident, promising thorough inspections and immediate rectification of any issues. In an official statement, the DDA assured that additional engineers and laborers have been deployed to expedite the work and ensure safety standards are met.

“To ensure quality is maintained and workmanship is up to the mark, officers of the rank of assistant engineers have been deputed for each tower. Allottees have been requested to visit their respective flats once the possession letter is issued to them. After issuance of possession letter, the flat will be jointly inspected by the engineering staff and the allottees, and if any shortcomings are observed, they will immediately be rectified before the flats are physically handed over,” said a DDA spokesperson.

Despite these assurances, the incident has left many potential residents apprehensive. Most of the buyers are expected to make full payments and take possession of their flats by the end of August, but the recent event has made them cautious. Ensuring the safety and quality of these luxury flats remains a top priority as DDA works to address the concerns raised by the allottees.
