Gurugram, India – In a shocking incident, a 44-year-old man from Odisha, working as a caretaker in a residential building in Sector-40, was brutally assaulted by a neighboring house owner and his associate on July 24, leading to fractures, cuts, and bruises. The incident came to light when the victim, Govind Pradhan, filed a written complaint after recovering from his injuries, police said on Friday.

According to investigators, Pradhan, who hails from Kendrapara in Odisha, was called to the neighboring house through an electrician, Amar Kumar, despite his initial hesitation due to the owner’s earlier abusive behavior towards daily wagers. Upon reaching the terrace, Pradhan was met with abuse and subsequently protested, which led to the owner losing his temper and physically assaulting him.

“Around 5:20 PM on July 24, the owner began abusing Pradhan, who then protested. The owner slapped Pradhan hard on his face, and subsequently assaulted him with a wooden bat. The owner and a tenant dragged Pradhan through the stairs and threw him on the ground when he lost consciousness,” a senior police official stated.

After regaining consciousness, Pradhan alerted his employer and visited the Sector-40 police station. He was initially taken to Sector-10 Civil Hospital and later referred to a private hospital in Sector-30 due to the severity of his injuries. Medical reports confirmed that Pradhan sustained a displaced right leg bone, a fractured bone, and multiple cuts and wounds during the assault.

Sandeep Kumar, the public relations officer of Gurugram police, assured that the suspects would be arrested soon. An FIR was registered against them under section 115(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector-40 police station on Friday night.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, highlighting the need for greater protection and rights for workers in the area.
