New Delhi, India – In a shocking incident, a student suffered a severe electric shock while using a biometric machine at a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. This tragic event occurred a day before the basement flooding at Rau’s IAS coaching center, which claimed the lives of three aspirants.
Vani Awasthi, the victim, is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, after being electrocuted while trying to register her attendance. Shweta, an eyewitness, recounted the harrowing event, stating that the rain from 1-2 weeks prior had caused earthing issues with the gate where the biometric machine was installed.
“Awasthi touched the gate to open it and got an electric shock,” Shweta told ANI. “She was rushed to RML Hospital and admitted to the ICU for 1-2 days. When her condition stabilized, she was transferred to her hometown Bareilly for further treatment.”
Dr. Sudeep Saran from Bareilly confirmed that Awasthi’s injuries were severe, initially rendering her unconscious and leading to her being admitted to the ICU. “Vani developed a phobia due to the incident, causing her left leg and hand to stop functioning. She is now better with medication and counseling but still requires assessment for any impact on her aptitude,” Dr. Saran explained.
The faulty biometric machines were removed following the incident, and the coaching center subsequently shut down its basement library. This move came in response to increasing concerns about student safety, particularly after the devastating flooding incident at Rau’s IAS coaching center.
Shweta, who witnessed the accident, emphasized the urgency of addressing safety issues in educational institutions. “The situation could have been prevented if proper safety measures were in place,” she remarked.
The coaching center has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, authorities are conducting investigations to ensure such tragedies do not recur.
