Gonda, Uttar Pradesh — In a tragic incident, the Dibrugarh Express, en route from Chandigarh, derailed between Jhilahi railway station and Gosai Dihwa, resulting in the loss of at least two lives and injuring around 20 passengers on Thursday. Among the injured, two are reported to be in critical condition.
The accident, which occurred at approximately 2:37 PM, prompted an immediate response from emergency services. A 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances were swiftly dispatched to the site, with additional medical support on the way, as confirmed by Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar. Senior officials from both the railway and local administration are present at the scene, which is located about 150 km from Lucknow, to oversee the ongoing rescue operations.
Chief Minister’s Directive and Relief Efforts
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed district authorities to ensure that all injured individuals receive proper medical treatment. The Chief Minister’s office issued a statement on X, emphasizing the urgency of the situation and the need for rapid relief efforts. The statement read, “Taking cognizance of the train accident in Gonda district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district administration officials to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide them with proper treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Railway and Government Response
North Eastern Railway CPRO Pankaj Singh informed ANI that the railways’ medical van had reached the site and rescue operations were underway. Helpline numbers have been issued for concerned relatives and friends of passengers on the train. The Ministry of Railways released these helpline numbers to provide information and support to the affected families.
Assistance from NDRF and Assam Government
In response to the derailment, one NDRF team each from Lucknow and Balrampur has been dispatched to Gonda. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s office also communicated that he is closely monitoring the situation and that the Government of Assam is coordinating with the relevant authorities to ensure comprehensive assistance.
