Gurgaon, 10 July 2024 – Despite the light and cloudy weather, Gurgaon experienced a slight rise in temperature on Tuesday. The maximum temperature reached 33.4 degrees Celsius, slightly above Monday’s 32.1 degrees but still five degrees below the seasonal norm. The minimum temperature recorded was 27.5 degrees Celsius, nearly two degrees higher than Monday’s 25.6 degrees and a notch above normal.

Humidity levels fluctuated between 56% and an uncomfortable 89%, contributing to the city’s sultry weather. By 5 pm, Farukhnagar had reported 19 mm of rainfall, while Pataudi and Badshapur experienced 3 mm and 2.5 mm of rainfall, respectively.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue in isolated areas across the state over the next five days. However, heavy rains are anticipated in the northern parts of the state on July 12. No weather alerts have been issued for Gurgaon until Saturday.

An IMD official stated, “While some isolated areas may experience scattered showers, we are not expecting much rainfall over the next few days. However, the cloud cover will prevent any sharp increase in the temperature.” The Met department predicts that the weather will remain cloudy, with minimum and maximum temperatures expected to hover around 29 and 35 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The air quality index in Gurgaon was recorded at 93, remaining in the satisfactory category and showing a slight improvement from the previous day’s reading of 98.

Meanwhile, parts of Delhi experienced an intense spell of rain on Tuesday afternoon, making the day pleasant. Though very light to light rain is expected on Wednesday, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Thursday and Friday, predicting light to moderate showers. Safdarjung, Delhi’s base station, logged 30.8 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Lodhi Road received 35 mm of rain during the same period. Other stations in the city recorded lighter rain, with 11.3 mm on the Ridge, 10.5 mm at Delhi University, 8.5 mm at Palam, and 8 mm at Ayanagar.

The Met department had predicted very light to light rain for Tuesday, catching many residents off-guard. A Met official explained, “High humidity led to the formation of local convective clouds, leading to rain on Tuesday. Light to moderate showers were recorded across the city.”

IMD data shows that since the arrival of the monsoon on June 28 in Delhi, this was the second intense spell of rain for Safdarjung this year. On June 28, Safdarjung had received extremely heavy rainfall of 228.1 mm in a single day.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during the expected showers in the coming days.
