Faridabad, 10 July 2024– In a display of exceptional medical expertise, doctors at the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Faridabad performed a complex and life-saving surgery on 21-year-old Trilok Sharma, who was critically injured in a motorcycle accident on June 8.
Sharma, a resident of Firozpur Jhirka, was riding his motorcycle on the wrong side of the road without a helmet when the accident occurred. Rushed to AIMS, he was immediately resuscitated and intubated by the emergency team to stabilize his deteriorating condition. Due to ongoing bleeding, Sharma was quickly moved to the operating theatre.
Dr. LM Parashar from the ENT department performed a tracheostomy, allowing the plastics and reconstruction team, led by Dr. Anshumali Misra and Dr. Karan Goyal, to conduct a five-and-a-half-hour facial reconstruction surgery. Sharma had sustained a severe injury to his right eye, multiple facial fractures, damage to his nasal cavity, skull bleeding, and significant loss of skin and membrane lining on his face.
Post-surgery, Sharma was kept in the ICU and later transferred to the regular ward as his health improved. Dr. Misra emphasized the importance of the emergency team’s quick actions, stating, “The swift response of the emergency team was instrumental in ensuring that the patient received the best medical care.”
Sharma’s uncle, Tej Ram, shared the family’s experience, “We got the news around 4:30 pm on June 8. With no good hospital nearby, we took him to Faridabad. His condition was critical, but the doctors gave us hope. We weren’t sure he would survive, but he did because of the doctors’ timely intervention.”
