Gurugram, July 9, 2024 — Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has pledged that if the Congress party wins the upcoming state assembly elections, they will extend the metro line from Gurugram to Manesar. Speaking at a conference of Congress workers, Hooda emphasized the party’s past achievements and criticized the current BJP-led government for halting further metro expansions.

Highlighting Past Achievements

Hooda pointed to the Congress party’s “historic” accomplishment of bringing the Delhi Metro service to Gurugram, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, and Bahadurgarh in Haryana. He described these developments as key milestones in transforming these areas into well-connected urban centers.

Criticism of the BJP Government

The former Chief Minister expressed strong disapproval of the current government’s performance, citing issues such as garbage accumulation, traffic congestion, and sewerage problems that have plagued Gurugram under BJP rule. “Gurugram, once envisioned by the Congress as a global city, now faces numerous challenges,” Hooda remarked.

Hooda also raised concerns about the declining law and order situation in Haryana, suggesting that the current policies have left citizens feeling unsafe. He lamented the reduction in new investments and the exodus of industries from Gurugram and Manesar, attributing these issues to the BJP’s governance.

Economic and Industrial Decline

“During our tenure, Gurugram and Manesar attracted significant investments, including 70 percent of Japan’s investments. However, today, existing industries are relocating, and companies are downsizing their workforce,” Hooda asserted. He emphasized the need for policies that will restore investor confidence and revive economic growth in the region.

DMRC’s Phase 4 Expansion

Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reported substantial progress on its Phase 4 expansion project, despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and delays in regulatory approvals. DMRC officials indicated that more than 50 percent of the work has been completed on all three priority corridors, totaling 65 kilometers, with plans for operational readiness by 2026.

Looking Ahead

Hooda’s promise to extend the metro line from Gurugram to Manesar forms a central part of the Congress party’s campaign platform. As the state assembly elections approach, the party is positioning itself as a pro-development alternative to the current BJP government. Voters in Haryana will soon decide whether this vision aligns with their aspirations for the state’s future.
