Estimated read time 3 min read

Gurugram – In a tragic incident on the Dwarka Expressway near Sector-110, two individuals were critically injured when a speeding truck rammed into their bike taxi on the service lane. The accident, which occurred between 10:20 PM and 10:30 PM on June 30, has left one of the victims with a severed limb and both in critical condition.

Details of the Incident

The victims have been identified as Rajesh Giri, 32, the owner of the bike taxi, and his pillion rider, Satish Kumar, 44, who works in a factory in Jaipur. Kumar had booked the bike taxi from Sector-109 to reach Khyala in West Delhi. The accident happened near pillar numbers 32-33 on the expressway.

Investigators revealed that the truck hit the bike taxi, causing both men to be knocked unconscious on the spot. Giri suffered multiple fractures, while Kumar’s left leg was severed above the knee. “Kumar lost a lot of blood from wounds on his hands, legs, and from a head injury,” said a senior police officer.

Immediate Response

Approximately ten minutes after the accident, two men in a car discovered the victims lying in a pool of blood beside their mangled motorcycle. They quickly transported the injured men to a nearby hospital. However, due to the severity of their injuries, the victims were redirected to another private hospital in Sector-23, Palam Vihar.

Ankit Kumar, the injured passenger’s brother-in-law, shared that doctors had to amputate Kumar’s left leg due to the severe injury. He also mentioned that the hospital bills had escalated to ₹11 lakh, which the family was struggling to cover by borrowing money from relatives and neighbors.

Ongoing Investigation

Inspector Ashok Kumar, the station house officer of Bajghera police station, stated that the condition of both men remains serious. Giri was initially shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for his fractures, but his family later moved him to another facility. “We are trying to reach them,” said the inspector.

The lack of CCTV cameras around the accident site has made it difficult to trace the truck driver. However, authorities have identified that a Bolero pickup van registered in Gurugram was involved in the accident. “We are looking for CCTV footage towards Delhi to trace the complete registration number and arrest the driver,” added the SHO.

Legal Proceedings

Based on the complaint filed by Kumar’s wife Neeraj, an FIR was registered against the unidentified truck driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at Bajghera police station on Friday.

Conclusion

This tragic accident highlights the urgent need for better safety measures and surveillance on busy roads like the Dwarka Expressway. The authorities are continuing their efforts to trace the responsible driver and bring justice to the victims and their families.
